Each year at the District Convention, the Governor presents the following awards to clubs in District 7. In the distant past the awards existed as travelling trophies. Unfortunately the trophies have gradually disappeared. Since the early 1990s the district has presented the winning clubs with framed certificates created especially for the District.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Harold Elliott Man-Mile Award<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

This award is presented each year at the District VII Convention to the club with the largest total calculated by multiplying the number of attendees times the miles traveled to reach the convention.<\/span><\/p>

The award was established in memory of Harold Elliot, a member of the Winnipeg Gyro Club from 1945 until his death in 1973. Harold served as President of the Winnipeg club in 1953-54, and served as Governor of District VII in 1957-58. He was granted the Merit Award shortly before his passing in 1973.<\/span><\/p>

The calculation should be made by the Governor at least a week prior to the District Convention. If the outcome is in doubt, a certificate can be prepared for each contending club, with only the winner being awarded at the Convention.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Fred Burns Internal Expansion Award<\/strong><\/p>

This award is presented each year by District VII to the club with the largest net increase in membership during that year.<\/p>

The award was established in memory of Fred Burns, a member of the Fort William Gyro Club from its inception in 1927 until his death in 1983. Fred served as President of the club in 1955-56, and as Governor of District VII in 1962-63. He was granted the Merit Award in 1970.<\/p>

The decision should be based on the membership report issued by Gyro International at the end of July. In 2009 the District began using % increase as the criteria in order to put small clubs on an equal footing with large clubs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Howard Fairburn Memorial Bulletin Award<\/strong><\/p>

This award is presented each year by District VII to the club that, in the judgment of the district officers, has produced the best club bulletin or newsletter throughout that year.<\/p>

The award was established in memory of Howard Fairburn, an active member of the Winnipeg Gyro Club from 1946 until his death in 1968. Howard first became a Gyro when he joined the Kelowna club in 1930, and was active in the Vancouver and Ottawa clubs before settling in Winnipeg. Howard served as Governor of District VII in 1965-66.<\/p>
